Mission Statement LED underwater lighting company, OceanLED was founded in December 2004 by father and son team, Nigel and Lee Savage. The initial concept was to produce a simple underwater light that never needed a new bulb. Since then the product has evolved dramatically to where it is today, as the most advanced underwater lighting solution available. With offices spanning onto three continents the company continues to move from strength to strength.
LEDs offer the perfect basis for combining electronics with light. The traditional light bulb was invented over 100 years ago and in the same way, as we have seen over the past decade, technologies such as mobile phones, televisions and computers have totally transformed - so too has light. The real difficulty has however been finding the symbiosis of electronics and lighting design and this is where OceanLED have excelled. With a thorough understanding of electronics and thermal management combined with 25 years of lighting experience the company was capable for the first time to produce an LED lighting product with unquestionable light output, solid reliability and extreme versatile practicality.
Totally revamping the stagnating underwater lighting market on boats and yachts in 2006, OceanLED’s revolutionary Thru Hull design, requiring only a 1” hole in the boats hull suddenly made it a viable option for boat owners and OEM’s worldwide. With patent protection on all their products the company is beginning to mark its authority on every continent as more and more new companies begin to join the market as the popularity for underwater lighting increases. OceanLED having pushed the technology to this stage, are not only at the top of their game, but have a massive ongoing R&D programme and vouch to always stay ahead.
As OceanLED make their way into the second half of 2007 the underwater lighting market is rapidly expanding into all areas of water illumination. Traditional swimming pool lights are radically being rethought, pond and fountain lights are now being built into the structures apposed to simply dropping them in as an afterthought. Not only is it the functionality of the fixtures being produced which is causing a stir in multiple industries but combined with the technology, the reliability and the pure colors that can be created, the new word on the street is ‘if its not being lit by OceanLED, its probably not worth being lit at all.’

An interview with Nigel, Founder and Managing Director of OceanLED I met my wife in the 70's when she was in a dance troupe called the 'Young Generation'. I used to watch her shows in awe, of course because of her, but also for the overall visual effects. For each dance number the costumes were coloured to match the lights and I have always referred to the shows as 'a visual orgasm!' Ever since then I've been fascinated by light and of course my wife!
"I have created a few lighting companies over the past 30 years, where my primary aim was quality and exquisite design, but the problem with most lights is heat, bulb failure and colour control.
"I was first introduced to Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) around 10 years ago, but it wasn't until recently with the introduction of High Powered LEDs that I was able to seriously consider the possibility of using them for major lighting applications.
"LED lighting is not like traditional lighting with bulbs. An LED is an electronic component and therefore needs to be treated as such, and this is where many lighting companies are failing at present. It is the symbiosis of lighting design and electronics. My R&D Director, Chris, has been instrumental in taking the designs so much further to where they are today.
"I'm very excited by the prospect of the next 12 months. We have LED lights on test now that are total 'world firsts' and I'm itching to get them on to the market.
"As someone once said, regarding our lights - 'its like looking at the sun - only brighter!' Get ready to be amazed."

Patent Protection "All the products that are offered by OceanLED have been created by our own research and design team and as innovators we at Ocean LED take the protection of our intellectual property very seriously."
"Ocean LED's underwater LED lights are protected by granted UK patent GB 2413840 and German utility patent DE 20 2004 013 308.3. Furthermore, Ocean LED's underwater LED lights are also the subject of international patent application PCT/GB2005/001743, which has received extremely favourable international examination. Patent applications based upon this international application are currently pending in the USA (US 10/583,875), Europe (EP 05742389.9), the UAE (AE 802/2006), Australia (AU 2005240402), Israel and China." |

"Light bulbs are among the last devices that use vacuum tubes, an old technology that has been replaced in radios and most televisions." It has become a recognised fact that solid-state lighting sources (SSL) are the next generation in illuminating the world. Once used only for indicator lights and low level lighting requirements, SSL technology has been replacing conventional technologies in traffic lights, exit signs and airline taxiway edge lights for years.
Nigel Savage has been aware of this progress for around 10 years and is now realising his dream by offering TRUE replacements to conventional lighting with LEDs in the marine sector.

Cost efficiency - Find out why you get the most bang out of your bucks with LEDs... Compared to a conventional light bulbs relatively short life span, Ocean LEDs fixtures are estimated to last at full brightness for 40 000 hours, i.e. if used for 8 hours a night for 13 and a half years there will be no noticeable light loss and therefore no need to change a single bulb.
During a conventional light's lifetime, maintenance costs are normally significantly higher than the original purchase price. By changing to our LEDs you can get up to 300 percent reduction in power usage over halogen for example, and since our fixtures run significantly cooler air conditioning can also be reduced. All in all,OceanLED lights are obviously more cost efficient.
So far well over 1,000,000 traffic signal lights in the USA have been converted from old technology bulbs, to LEDs saving huge amounts of energy and maintenance. When New York switched over, its electric bill for traffic lights alone was cut by over 90%.
Safety
With our LEDs you will gain increased safety as a result of lower operating voltages and on average 50 percent less heat exposure.

Abstract from The Economist Newspaper Ltd. Since LEDs were first invented over four decades ago, they have mostly been used in niche applications, first as simple indicator lights on calculators or watches and then, as their brightness improved, in displays, signs and traffic signals.
More recently, some companies have begun to sell LED fixtures for residential use. LEDs have become popular because they have numerous advantages over conventional light bulbs. For one thing, they last much longer: they can endure up to a decade of non-stop use compared with a few months or less for incandescent bulbs. They also take up much less space (a typical LED is about the size of the rubber on the end of a pencil), are shock resistant, and, perhaps most important of all, are extremely energy-efficient. An incandescent bulb, made of a wire filament encased in glass, emits only 5% of the energy it consumes as light; the rest is wasted as heat. Flourescent lights, which consist of tubes filled with mercuy vapour, are roughly four times more efficient. LEDs, however, contain no mercury and already rival flourescents in efficiency.
The Future
Together with his team, Nigel Savage is constantly seeking out pioneering technology and designs that repeatedly set new standards. Expect to see many more developments and new products in the very near future.
For your information:
"Our LEDs have no moving parts, no fragile glass environments, no mercury, no toxic gasses and no filaments. There is nothing to break, rupture, shatter, leak or contaminate. In other words, LEDs are not subject to sudden failure or burnout."
