The L-1
The L-1 is designed specifically for Cruise Ships and larger vessels.
A large cofferdam is welded into the hull. A stanchion tube is welded on to the rear of the cofferdam and rises vertically to a point inside the hull above the waterline.
The cabling from the L-1 light engine, including 3 meters of spare cable is coiled into the cofferdam and routed up the stanchion tube in the hull. The L-1 light unit is then secured in place via 8 high tensile 316 stainless steel bolts, seated into delrin inserts to minimise galvanic corrosion.
Should the light fixture ever fail or be damaged, the L-1 light can be removed from the outside of the hull, brought above the waterline, replaced and re-installed without hauling the boat or gaining rear access. The L-1 has been recognized as a major advancement for the underwater lighting needs on large yachts.
The L-1 light is made with unique 140 degree wide angle optics and just like the F-1 fixture can achieve up to 25 degree hull counter angling within the fixture itself.
As the cofferdam becomes part of the intrinsic hull, each installation requires a Lloyds, RINA, ABS or other approval agency to inspect the installation prior to receiving type approval. |
