Taking Edisons creation to the next level. |
M/Y Beothuk represents 2 years of research and development for OceanLED. M/Y Beothuk uses the 1st Generation of interior and exterior LED light fixtures, which have proved to be immensely successful.
Generation 2, ‘Liet’ is due for release in Summer ‘09. This state of the art Liet is not only revolutionary in its physical design but incorporates all the driver and dimming functions within the light itself.
This will totally revamp Lieting installations and change the way we makes boats. |

In keeping with tradition, the second Beothuk for Canadian owner-engineer Philip Keeping is a technological tour de force. The first newly built yacht to be fitted entirely with LED lights, she is packed with facilities and comforts way beyond her 31 metre size range.
The number or owners who profess to be hands-on when it comes to the operation of their yachts is growing, usually reflecting an involvement in the design and construction. But not many owners can be found in the engine room dressed in overalls and wiping oil from their hands – and fewer still are able not only to explain how the equipment works but also fully maintain it.
Philip Keeping, a soft-spoken, unassuming man with an exceptional understanding of how boats work and a passion to optimise their operation, took delivery of his first Beothuk in Holland six years ago – a Doggersbank Offshore 84 built by Kuipers (now Dok en Scheepsbouw Woudsend) to a design by Vripack Naval Architects. He played a huge part in the project but the demands of running his telecommunications company meant that he could not enjoy exploring the waters around his native Canada as much as he would have liked. Retiring from full-time business, and having sold the first Beothuk in record time (she is now called Lady Yvette), he quickly got the same team together in Holland to prepare a new long-range vessel that would be six metres longer and absorb the experiences gained by all parties.
‘If you want a yacht of the highest pedigree, you have to go to Holland,’ says Keeping, who over the last three years has spent more time at the yard than at his home in the Bahamas. ‘The craftsmen at Kuipers performed excellently on the first Beothuk and have excelled again. Vripack, too, have been superb. We started designing the new boat in June 2004 and thought initially that we could adapt the Doggersbank 94. After a few meetings it became evident that this wouldn’t work so we started from scratch, examining all the options for maximizing space via drawings and mock-ups. We ended up with an astonishing boat that looks and feels as if she is at least 20 feet longer.
